Conservation

On June 5, World Environment Day, we organized a programme for the children of Turia to explain the importance of nature and the need for conservation. Field assistant Niranjan Hinge led a team of 10 children from the village to the jungle adjoining the village where he spoke to them.

On June 12 Niranjan led a team of 7 villagers from Turia in a programme to clean a well used to draw drinking water. Plastic wrappers and organic litter had clogged the well, making it unusable. Our team cleaned the well, removed the debris and buried the waste in a pit. After our programme, the well is being used daily by villagers to draw water for drinking.

On June 21, Niranjan led 5 children of Khamba village in a programme to clean a water body adjoining the village. The water body is used by domestic livestock during the day and by wild animals at night. Spotted deer and sambhar are spotted regularly in the area.

Education

On June 24, our team started a computer education programme for tribal children of Turia. At our local office in Turia, every evening after completing their field work, our team teaches the village children the basics about computers. 8 to 10 children are attending classes regularly for 2 hours daily.

On the trail, Niranjan identified various species of local flora and fauna and explained the need for conservation to the children. Similar nature trail programmes were organized on June 3 for 8 students of Satosha village, on June 9 for 5 children of Awarghani village and on June 15 for 7 students of Teliya village.
