Conservation

On April 5, Bandu organized a programme at Sitarampeth to clear the area around a hand pump where water had spilled over while people drew from the pump. Over a period of time, this had created a small marshy area, leading to proliferation of mosquitoes and insects. Our team cleared the area, removing scum and organic growth and dug a canal to drain away the water. 4 youths from the village joined Bandu in the programme. A similar programme was organized on April 11 at Dewada in which 7 youths from the village joined hands with Bandu. Photos below: the programme at Dewada.

On April 10, Bandu organized a programme to clear a water body at Mudholi, which was covered with leaves and organic litter. Bandu and 2 youths of the village cleaned the water hole. Wildlife uses this water body and wild boars, blue bulls and spotted deer are regularly spotted in the area while sloth bears are seen occasionally.

A similar programme was organized on April 22 to clear a water body at Moharli in which 5 youths from the village participated.

As the rains are yet a couple of months away, while the temperature is rising, birds are struggling for water. Bandu organized programmes to put up pots with water for birds in 3 villages – Adegaon, Kutwanda and Moharli. Photos below.

Bandu has been organizing programmes to collect seeds (seed bank) for planting once the monsoon sets in. In the process, children are taught about the value of trees and the need to preserve the green cover and increase it. During April, seeds were collected by children in Kondegaon, Adegaon and Sitarampeth.

On April 6, Bandu organized a programme at Bhamdeli to follow up on plantation of saplings done last year. This is to ensure that saplings planted during the monsoon are live and have sufficient protection from grazing livestock. 11 students from the village school joined Bandu in the programme. Similar programmes were organized on April 9 at Kondegaon in which 15 students and April 24 at Chorgaon in which 19 students participated.
