 Conservation

On August 24 Sumit and Niranjan led a team of 6 people in a programme to clear wild growth from around a hand pump at Potiya. Wild growth had proliferated around the hand pump and access to the pump was affected. Our team, comprising 6 villagers, removed the wild growth and cleaned the area.

On August 21 Niranjan Hinge repaired a defective biogas unit in Aamajhiri village. Biogas helps reduce the dependency of villagers on fuel wood from forest areas and also helps them due to reduced smoke emissions.

We held 1 programme during August to promote awareness on crop protection. Farmers were informed about natural, bird based pest control solutions which they can adopt at their farms to reduce pest pressure.

During the month of August, 3 plantation programs were organised in which a total of 60 saplings belonging to various species like mango, neem, lemon, pipal, and jamun were planted by the villagers. These saplings were prepared by us with the help of the nature clubs formed in the schools.

On August 17, our team organised an event at Government Middle School, Telia to promote awareness about wildlife and tiger conservation. As part of our programme, we organised a rally in which around 39 students walked through the village, chanting slogans for wildlife and nature conservation.

On August 28, our team organised a kitchen garden programme at Middle School Kohoka with the help of Nature club. Students and teachers were made aware of the benefits of a kitchen garden, and the basic design of kitchen gardens was explained along with water-conservation benefits associated with such an activity. Seed of spinach, tomato, coriander, fenugreek etc. were distributed by our team.
