November 2012 Activity Report: Pench Maharashtra

Highlights
·      One water conservation voluntary work project – check dam near Sillari
·      One voluntary work project to clean water body at Kuwadhari at Ghatpendari
·      Field assistant Bandu Uikey joined Forest Department staff on anti-poaching patrols twice
·      One voluntary work project to clean school's kitchen garden and drinking water tank at Sawara
·      4 nature trails for students at Pipariya, Zinzeriya, Ghoti, Ghatpendari
·      Environment education programme in 10 villages -- covered 371 students
·      One workshop on community patrolling programme, attended by representatives of 6 villages
·      Attended meeting on VEDC and resettlement meeting with chief secretary, CCF, RFO at Sillari & Fulzari
·      Surveyed Ghoti village to establish BPL candidates for LPG connections at request of Forest Department
·      4 medical camps – 184 patients treated

Conservation













On November 15, field assistant Bandu Uikey joined local staff of the Forest Department in an anti-poaching patrol. Members of the eco-development committee (EDC) of Ghatpendari and Bandu took part in the patrol in the jungle near Dhatijira beat Ghatpendari. A similar patrolling programme took place on November 25 at Sitanahani beat, in Ghatpendari range.

On November 20 Bandu led a team of 13 youths of Salai village in a programme to clean water body at Kuwadhari nallah around ½ km. from the village. Leaves, plastic and other organic matter had accumulated in the water body and clogged it up. The water body is used by domestic livestock during the day and by wildlife at night. The team cleaned the water body, collected the waste matter and disposed of it.

On November 12, Bandu led 12 children and youths from Ghatpendari village on a nature trail in the jungle adjoining the village. On the trail, Bandu identified various species of local flora and fauna and explained the need for conservation to the children.

On November 11, Dilip led 18 children from Pipariya village on a nature trail in the jungle adjoining the village. On the trail, Dilip spoke to the children about the importance of trees and wild life in our eco system. A similar trail was organized for 22 children of Zinzeriya on November 18 and for 15 children of Ghoti on November 28.

On November 2, Dilip led a team of 15 villagers of Sillari village in a programme to construct a stop dam on a stream adjoining the village.

On November 17, Dilip led a team of 20 children of Sawara village in a programme to clean the kitchen garden and water tank of the school.

Education
   
In November, our team conducted environment education programmes in 10 schools in our area of operations.

Our team assisted Nature Conservation Society, Amravati in conducting 4 medical camps in November.
