Conservation
As part of our water conservation efforts, Bandu organized a
voluntary work project during January to construct a check/stop dam
on a stream.
The resultant water body will benefit domestic
livestock in the day and wild animals at night. Wild boar, spotted deer,
nilgai and barking deer are spotted regularly in the area with occasional sightings
of leopard.

During the month, Bandu also 6 organized programmes to
follow-up on plantation done during the monsoon months. Last year, during the
monsoon, we had arranged for planting of saplings in different villages. Now,
we are following up to ensure that the saplings get enough water as well as
protection from grazing livestock. Details are given in the table above.

On January 14, Bandu organized an anti-plastic programme at Kondegaon
in which school students cleaned up the main village road of plastic litter and
waste. They then cleaned up the school premises. The litter/waste was then
buried in pits. A similar anti-plastic programme was organized on January 17 at
Bamdeli.

On January 12, Bandu organized a programme to clean the
surroundings next to a well used to draw drinking water at Dewada. Spillover
water had stagnated around the well, creating a bog in which insects were
breeding. The team dug a canal to drain the water away and cleaned up the area
around the well. A similar programme was organized on January 15 at Junona to
clean the area around a hand pump.
During January, Bandu organized 2 nature trails for school
students of Adegaon (Jan 17) and Sitarampeth (Jan 25). On the trails, Bandu
helped the children identify various birds and plants and spoke to them about
nature and wildlife conservation.
