Activity Update October 2013: Pench Madhya Pradesh

Highlights

·      One voluntary work project to clean area near hand pump in Khamba village
·      Two nature trails at Turia and Satosha
·      8 environmental education programmes – attended by 346  students
·      Created awareness about wildlife and forests on the occasion of “Wildlife Week” through week-long series of programmes
·      Six  film shows on nature and wildlife conservation – viewed by 325  school children
·      6 medical camps – treated 199 patients

October 1-7 was “Wildlife Week, and various conservation activities were held by the staff in the area of operations, as reported separately.

On October 22, field assistant Niranjan Hinge organized a voluntary work project at Khamba village. Villagers with the assistance of Niranjan cleaned the area near a hand pump, which had become overgrown with wild vegetation due to heavy monsoon rains. Photos below.





































On October 12 and 20, Niranjan took students from Turia and Satosha respectively on nature trails on which he spotted and identified butterflies and birds encountered in the area near the villages. He also explained techniques of identifying pugmarks and hoofmarks of animals near the village.

Environmental Education Programme

In October, our team conducted environment education programmes in 8 schools in our area of operations.












IT Education Programme

Our programmes to expose village children to computers are running in Teliya and Turia.

Mobile Health Unit (MHU)

We assisted Nature Conservation Society, Amravati in holding 6 medical camps in October in which 199 patients were treated.
