Activity Update July 2014: Pench Madhya Pradesh

Highlights

·      One anti-plastic programme near Satosha village
·      One plantation programme at Turia -- planted 7 saplings
·      One community assistance programme to repair one bio-gas unit
·      One rally to celebrate Global Tiger Day at Teliya village
·      10 environmental education programmes in classrooms, attended by 239 students
·      3 nature trails for school children of Turia, Turia and Durgapur
·      6  film shows on nature and wildlife – viewed by 339 villagers
·      6  medical camps at which 119 patients were treated


Conservation


On July 30, Niranjan led a team of four people from Satosha in a programme to clear plastic waste littered in the forest adjoining the village. This area is frequently used by wildlife from the Tiger Reserve. The plastic/polythene bags pose a threat to animals as they sometimes eat the bags. The litter was collected and stored in a gunny bag for disposal.



































On July 29, Global Tiger Day was celebrated at Teliya village. Children went on a rally through the village chanting slogans for tiger and nature conservation.  Photo below.

On July 16, a nature trail was organized by Niranjan for the children of Durgapur village. On the trail he explained to them about the various herbs and common medicinal plants found in the area. Similar
trails were organized at Turia and Telia villages on July 18 and July 29 respectively. Photos below.


































On July 20, Niranjan along with 2 villagers planted 7 mango saplings at Turia village. The saplings were prepared at our office in Turia.


















Environmental Education Programme

Niranjan conducted 10 environment education programmes in classrooms during July to promote awareness about conservation among the students.












IT Education Programme

Satpuda Foundation has been running a programme to introduce computers to children living in the remote villages adjoining Pench Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh. This programme is being implemented on a pilot basis in Teliya and Turia.

There were 6 film shows on nature and wild life conservation during July.

Mobile Health Unit (MHU)

We held 6 medical camps in July in which 119 patients were treated.
