Conservation Work
On June 5, field assistant Bandu Uikey joined local staff of the Forest Department and members of the Eco-Development Committee (EDC) of Ghatpendari in a programme to celebrate World Environment Day. Bandu explained to the villagers the concept of Joint Forest Management, how to reduce biotic pressure on forests, and also about the functioning of Eco-Development Committees.
On June
5, field assistant Dilip Lanjewar organized a programme to celebrate World Environment
Day at Sawara village. Dilip explained spoke about the importance of trees and forests, wild life and biodiversity
and the need for conservation. A rally was also organized with conservation
message.
Field
assistant Bandu Uikey joined local staff of the Forest Department in
anti-poaching patrols on June 10, 19 and 20. Members of the eco-development
committee (EDC) of Ghatpendari and Bandu took part in the patrols in the jungle
near Ghatpendari.
On June
25, Dilip led a team of 12 unemployed youths and children of Ghoti village in a
programme to clean the area next to a hand pump in Ghoti. Leaves, plastic and
other organic matter had spread around the hand pump. The team collected the litter
and cleaned the area.
On June
23, Bandu Uikey led a team of 12 unemployed youths of Ghatpendari village in a
programme to clean a drain in Ghatpendari village. Leaves, plastic and other organic matter had
fallen into the drain and clogged it up, making it difficult for water to flow.
On June
4, Dilip led 10 children from Fulzari village on a nature trail in the jungle
adjoining the village. On the trail, Dilip explained the importance of
trees and wildlife in our eco system.
During
the month, our team also worked with the Forest Department in preparing
micro-plans. As part of this exercise, we held awareness programmes jointly
with the Department in villages to explain to the villagers about micro-plans,
Joint Forest Management and Eco-Development Committees.
The
meetings were held at
Employment Cell
During June, one unemployed youth
got a job with our assistance.
Our team is in constant touch with
the Forest Department to keep track of vacancies as we seek to link local
youths to the Department. We found out about this vacancy and took Ganesh to
the local Round Officer, who selected him after an interview.
A tribal dance group, comprising
villagers from Sawara, earned Rs 2,000/- in June through 1 programme. The group
was set up with our assistance and we help it by speaking to resort owners to
organize performances by the group.
Mobile Health Unit (MHU)
There were 6 camps in June.
