Celebrating World Wildlife Day with the real Tiger Defenders

On 3 March, World Wildlife Day was observed throughout the world.

We at Satpuda Foundation focussed on tribal children, the real tiger defenders living in and around tiger reserves.

Our team had arranged two programmes in Pench Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra; one in Priyadarshini Pench Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh; one each in Satpura, Navegaon-Nagzira and Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve. Awareness rallies, nature trails, interactive programmes and lectures were organized involving around 150 students and 6 teachers in both Pench Tiger Reserves.

In Pench TR Maharashtra, the programmes were arranged at Pipariya and Narhar. A rally was arranged at Pipariya village with school children chanting slogans of wildlife protection. Village Eco-Development Committee (VEDC) president and members from Sillari were also present. Later SF Community Officer Dilip Lanjewar interacted with school children on wildlife conservation issues.

Another programme was arranged at Narhar in West Pench. Students were taken to the tiger reserve. SF Community Officer Bandu Uikey co-ordinated the event. PTR staff Round Officer of Narhar Mr Sarode and Forest Guard Mr Rathod explained to the students how tigers live and what is required for them to live in perfect harmony with buffer villages. The students enjoyed a trek in tiger habitat and discussed serious issues at the waterhole.

In Priyadarshini Pench Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh, similar programmes were arranged for school children of Turiya village.
