Conservation

On June 11, Kishor organised programmes in Kondegaon and Sitarampeth to motivate and engage villagers in this season’s plantation drive in the area. We have also motivated village children to participate in the plantation drive.

We have also cleared the area around 6 hand pumps and 3 small waterholes around the villages on June 16 and June 20. Our team cleared the areas, removing scum and organic growth.

Ahead of the monsoon, we organised 3 programmes at Khutwanda, Mudholi and Katwal to prepare sites for plantation of saplings. Around 60 villagers participated in the programmes in which 220 pits were dug. Saplings will be procured and planted after the rains set in.

World Environment Day 2017

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2017, June 5, we organised several nature and wildlife oriented activities. Students from Khutwanda and Katwal villages participated in the celebration. We organised a rally where children chanted slogan and conveyed the message of nature conservation.

Children from Khutwanda and Katwal villages participated in a nature trail for bird watching and nature games organised on the day. We took children to a water body adjoining the villages where they spotted some wetland birds.

We also organised a competition in Katwal village in which school children drew pictures on environmental issues.

Environment Education

Only three visits to classrooms could be arranged as schools were closed till late June for the annual summer vacation. Our field assistant Kishor Dudhbarai interacted with the students after their summer break.

Employment Cell

We organised several awareness programmes in June for unemployed youths and women’s self-help groups (SHGs) focusing on alternative livelihoods which would reduce dependence on the forests.

We introduced them to district level vocational training and employment schemes like hospitality courses under Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gramin Kaushal Yojana (DDUGKY). Details of the programmes are given below:
