Wildlife Week 2017:
On the occasion of Wildlife Week
2017, from October 1st to 7th, we organised several
activities to engage villagers, students and Forest Department officials and to
spread the message of wildlife conservation. Students as well as villagers
enthusiastically participated in these activities. Details of the programmes are
as follows:
Conservation
On October 20th and
27th we organised cleanliness and anti-plastic programmes with the
villagers and students of the Zilla Parishad (ZP) schools of Adegaon and Katwal
villages. The programmes were organised to clean the areas in and around the
villages and to clear the monsoon shrubs around the hand pumps and wells to
prevent man-animal conflict as these shrubs provide shelter to snakes and
scorpions.
Employment
Cell
We organised 9 self-help group
(SHG) meetings and 2 village eco-development committee (VEDC) meetings,
focusing on alternative livelihoods which would reduce dependence on the
forests. 108 villagers attended these meetings.
Our team visited different villages
and selected 30 eligible youths to be trained in driving four-wheelers. Candidates
from previous training programme who have benefitted from the training, motivated
