One shramdhaan to
clean area around hand pump at Khapa village
:Conservation work
On Aug 17, 18 field assistant Bandu Uikey joined local staff of the Forest Department in anti-poaching patrols. Members of the eco-development committee (EDC) of Ghatpendari and Bandu took part in the patrols in the jungle near Ghatpendari.
On Aug
23 Dilip led a team of 10 unemployed youths and children of Khapa village in a
programme to clean the area around a hand pump in Khapa. Leaves, plastic and
other organic matter had accumulated in the area and water was stagnating,
leading to health risks. The team cleaned the area surrounding the hand pump,
collected the waste matter and disposed of it in a pit.
On Aug 10,
Bandu Uikey led a team of 5 unemployed youths of Ghatpendari village in a voluntary
programme to clean the village temple premises. Weeds and bushes had grown wild
in the area and there was also other litter. As the temple premises are used by
us to conduct community meetings, we organized the programme to clean up the
premises.
On Aug
19, Bandu Uikey led a team of 12 unemployed youths of Ghatpendari village in a
programme to construct a soak pit next to well for water. Spillover water was
spreading around the well, creating a mini bog. Our team organised the digging
of a channel to drain the water away to a pit in which gravel and pebbles had
been laid to act as a filter. The soak pit will help recharge the water table.
On Aug
26, Dilip led 20 children from Ghoti village on a nature trail in the jungle
adjoining the village. On the trail, Dilip spoke to the children about the
importance of trees and wildlife in our eco system.
On Aug
11 Dilip led a team of 25 children from Pipariya in a programme to plant seeds
of local plants in the village school campus. The seeds were of heta and kaner. Similar programmes were organized on Aug 17 at
Ghoti, on Aug 24 at Fulzari, on Aug 19 at Ghatpendari and on Aug 20 at Salai.
During
the month, our team also worked with the Forest Department in preparing micro plans.
As part of this exercise, we held surveys as per the following details:
Education
In August, our team conducted
environment education programmes in 12 schools in our area of operations.
Mobile Health Unit (MHU)
Our team assisted Nature Conservation Society, Amravati in conducting 6 medical camps in August
