Conservation

During the month, our team took advantage of the rains to launch plantation drives in the villages. The Forest Department supplied bamboo saplings, which we distributed to villagers for planting in their fields. Details are in the table above.

On September 7, our team of Amit Awasthi and Sampathlal Dhurve organised an anti-plastic programme at Patpara. They explained to the students of the Government Middle School about the harmful impact of plastic/polythene on the environment and motivated them to remove such litter from the village. The students went around the village, collecting plastic and polythene litter/waste, which was then buried in a pit on the outskirts of the village. Similar programmes were organised at Dhamangaon on September 15 and at Manegaon on September 21.

We also assisted three villagers in digging compost pits as part of our goal to encourage organic farming. Details of the pits are given in the table above.

During September, our team organized 2 programmes to promote public hygiene and cleanliness as part of our community assistance activities. On September 16, a programme was organized at Chapri in which 16 villagers joined hands to clean the main village road which had become overgrown with wild growth due to the heavy monsoon rains.

On September 23, a programme was organised at Sautiya to clean the area next to a well used to draw drinking water. Due to heavy rains, there was heavy wild growth around the well and grass and weeds had risen to cover the well. All this growth was removed so that access to the well was clear.

During the month our team also rendered community assistance by helping to clean several wells used to draw drinking water. We collected the cleansing agents from the hospital at Mocha and provided the same to different villages.

Our Kanha team has been encouraging local villagers to take up vegetable farming on a commercial basis in a bid to help them generate additional income. There is scope for commercial farming of vegetables due to the large number of hotels and resorts around Kanha. During September, we organised awareness programmes about vegetable farming in 5 villages. The details are given in the table above.
