September 2012 Activity Updates: Pench Madhya Pradesh

Highlights
·      1 nature trail for students at Satosha
·      Community assistance – cleaning of school campus and area next to hand pump at Khamrith
·      Medical camps in 5 villages – 266  patients treated
·      Seed planting programmes in Aamajhari, Khamrith, Durgapur
·      Environment Education  in 13 villages -- covered 620 students


Conservation












On September 23, Niranjan led 30 children from Satosha village on a nature trail in the jungle adjoining the village. On the trail, Niranjan, who worked earlier as a guide in the National Park, identified various species of local flora and fauna and explained the need for conservation to the children.

















On Sep 3, Anoop and Niranjan led a team of 10 children from Durgapur in a programme to plant seeds of local plants in the village school campus. Similar programmes were organized on September 8 at Aamajhari and on September 13 at Khamrith. The seeds were of heta, kaner.

On September 21, Anoop and Niranjan led a team of 15 children of Khamrith village in a programme to clean the area around a hand pump in Khamrith. Leaves, plastic and other organic matter had accumulated in the area and water was stagnating, leading to health risks. The team cleaned the area surrounding the hand pump, collected the waste matter and disposed of it in a pit. The team then cleaned up the school campus as well.

During the month our team organized environment education programme in 13 village schools in our area of operations.

We assisted Nature Conservation Society, Amravati in holding 6 medical camps in September.
