Activity Update November 2013: Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve

Highlights
·      Sapling plantation programmes at Bamdeli, Sitarampeth
·      Awareness programmes for plantation in 11 villages - attended by 190   people
·   Classroom visits to 10 schools as part of our environment education program – attended by 385 students
·      Organized awareness programmes on self-employment in 11 villages – attended by 345 people
·      Selected five youths for training at Aurangabad in hospitality, computers and welding – programme sponsored by TATR
·      Film shows on nature and wildlife conservation in 10 schools – attended by 380 people
·       Medical camps in 6 villages  - 283 patients treated
·      Visit to Bhagwanpur to follow up on status of relocated villagers  

Conservation

On November 26, saplings were distributed and planted at Bamdeli and Sitarampeth and on November 27 and 28, saplings were distributed and planted at Kutwanda, Katwal, Kondegaon, Mudholi and Junona villages.  The saplings were provided free of cost by the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (buffer wing). Species distributed included neem, anjan, karanj, kavat, shesam and jamun.

Awareness programmes on plantation were held at Chorgaon, Dewada, Adegaon, Bamdeli, Sitarampeth, Katwal, Kondegaon, Mudholi, Kutwanda, Moharli and Junona. The details are given below:

During the month, our team made classroom visits to 10 schools to educate children about nature and wildlife conservation.

Employment Cell

During November, we organized awareness programmes on self-employment and livelihood training programmes available at Star Self-Employment Training Institute, Chandrapur. This institute is founded and funded by Bank of India. Local Gram Panchayats  assisted by providing rooms for the programmes to be held.












S C Deotale executive officer, Panchayat Samiti, Bhadrawati (next to Ashfaq) and Rajendra Asotkar, sarpanch of Bamdeli along with Kumari S Jogi, block co-coordinator National Rural Livelihood Mission participated in the Bamdeli programme.

Raja Dawdle, deputy sarpanch Moharli and Budhiwan Navghare (President School Education Committee) participated in the Moharli programme.

Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (Buffer Zone) organized and sponsored livelihood and skill-enhancement training programmes at Aurangabad. They invited Satpuda Foundation to send candidates from our area of operations to be trained in hospitality industry, computer operation and as welders and fitters. The TATR management asked us to survey and identify unemployed youths from Bhagwanpur for the programmes. We gave a list of 29 youths from Bhagwanpur, out of which five were selected. The programmes started on November 24 and will run for 3 months. The youths will be provided jobs by the training agency upon successful completion of the training. Details below.
