Conservation

During August, Bandu organized 2 voluntary work programmes. On August 19, a team of 18 students and 2 teachers from Zilla Parishad Primary School, Chorgaon, joined Bandu in cleaning a soak pit on the school premises. The soak pit had become clogged with organic litter and water was spilling out of the pit. The team removed the growth from the pit and cleaned it.

On August 27, Bandu organized a programme at Kutwanda to clean the area around a well used by villagers to draw drinking water. Due to heavy rains, the area was overgrown with grass and had become slushy, rendering it difficult for villagers to approach. The team also cleaned a small tank near the well. Photos below.

As part of our seasonal conservation activities, we organized plantation programmes across the landscape during the monsoon. During August, Bandu organized 2 programmes in which a total of 20 saplings were planted in 2 school campuses. Some of the saplings were provided by the villagers themselves and others by the Forest Department. Species planted included neem, karanj, mango and sitaphal.

On August 5, Bandu organized an anti-plastic programme at Kondegaon in which school students cleaned the main village road of plastic litter and waste. The litter/waste was then buried in pits. A similar programme was organized on August 26 at Adegaon.
